Cisa

CISA

The Cisa highway is a constant in my life, as it is the road connecting my father, working in Parma, and my mother, with whom my sister and I lived in La Spezia.
The road is a non-place. One can be on the road, either going or returning from somewhere. Life happens at the beginning and end- in this project, also at the margins – of the road; what´s lying in between is just time passing by, somewhat lost to the black pavement.
In an attempt to somehow recover the time my family has spent crossing the mountains on this highway, I explore its borders through reflexive photography.
Have my memories found shelter in the places and faces that costellate this stretch of Appennine? This Is the question I am trying to answer.
The road works as a track, leading me to the meaning these places hold for me and the stories I want to tell.
Black and white photography stands for the asphalt pavement and the analogic technique conveys the idea of memory and nostalgia.
Without losing eye contact with the highway and its ever-present silhouette, I stroll around its surroundings and stop when something catches my attention, digging into the details that characterise the territory and the people who inhabit it.
